Three Panattoni projects awarded the DGNB platinum certificate

In the past year, Panattoni Germany has successfully met the criteria of the highest building standard set forth by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Nachhaltiges Bauen (DGNB [German Association for Sustainable Construction) and that with no fewer than three properties. The build-to-suit projects for Fressnapf in Neuruppin and the ASS Spielkartenfabrik in Altenburg as well as the new s. Oliver branch office at the Panattoni Park Würzburg Ost in Dettelbach were recently awarded the DGNB platinum certificate at the EXPO REAL.

There are more and more logistics properties in Germany now that have been awarded the DGNB gold certification. Platinum certifications are, however, rather rare because realising projects in accordance with the criteria of the platinum standard is particularly demanding. Additional project audits, comprehensive measurements and detailed records regarding the construction materials, recycling ratios and sustainable supply chains increase the expense and effort in comparison to the gold certification. In addition, mandatory measures like the use of materials low in contaminants, photovoltaics systems, fossil-free heating systems and the resource-conserving use of water are required. The protection of site-specific biodiversity also takes on a greater role with insect-friendly lighting and species protection measures like wildflower meadows and nesting boxes. Using the build-to-suit property Panattoni developed for Fressnapf in accordance with the platinum standard as an example, these additional ecological measures included building an earth wall and the resettlement of indigenous lizards to a nearby, newly created biotope.

Our construction projects in Neuruppin, Altenburg and Dettelbach are model examples on which we, in cooperation with our customers and the respective municipalities, have exceeded even our own standards. Everyone benefits in the end: the users as well as the employees, the region and the environment.”

Johannes Kreißig, Managing Board Member at DGNB adds, “The DGNB platinum certificate is the best proof that the highest sustainability standards have been implemented in a project. The fact that Panattoni is receiving awards at DGNB’s highest evaluation level for three of its logistics properties at once shows that the company is doing more than just paying lip service regarding sustainability.”

In order to obtain a DGNB platinum certificate, a property must meet at least 80 percent of the DGNB’s criteria. That is 15 percent points higher than required for the DGNB gold certification. The ecological, economic as well as the socio-cultural and functional quality of the building are the focus of the criteria, and each make up 25 percent of the total score. The technical quality, process quality and site quality are also taken into account.
