Panattoni, the leading project developer for industrial and logistics real estate in Europe, has announced completion of the new build-to-suit (BTS) facility for Peter Sous GmbH, a company of Sous Logistik Group, which is headquartered in Düren, North Rhine-Westphalia. In addition to international transportation, the business fields of the long-established company include plastics, hazardous substances and discounter logistics, with an additional area of expertise in the container traffic segment. Sous Logistik Group provides a warehouse concept and offers a modern IT and fleet management system. The shelves were installed and operations started at the new facility in Düren in mid-September 2022.
Panattoni developed a tailored new logistics facility for the company with a total floor space of 15,723 m2, which includes roughly 14,728 m2 of warehouse and technical space and 994 m2 of office and ancillary space. In addition, there are 17 lorry parking spaces at the back of the building. As the facility is to be used for contract logistics and to store hazardous substances, Panattoni laid a water pollution protection film and installed a ventilation system. Furthermore, for a low-emission and resource-efficient energy supply, a photovoltaic installation is planned for the roof surfaces. And thanks to the sustainable development of the project, the new facility has received Gold certification from the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB).
“We are delighted to be able to move into the new and urgently needed spaces after such a short construction period of just six months. It will allow us to expand our activities in the region and achieve further growth. The complex requirements of hazardous substance storage were taken into account and implemented during construction of the building. We would like to thank Panattoni for the cooperation based on partnership and fairness,” says Jürgen Sous, Managing Partner of Peter Sous GmbH.
The plot, with a total area of around 31,000 m2, is the last available patch of land in the well-established local industrial estate and is in a region with little available space overall.
Sous Logistik Group will benefit from excellent links to the A4 federal motorway. The A44 and A61 are also just a few minutes’ drive from the site. The new location will provide the setting for the centralisation of the various value-creating services provided by Sous Logistik Group to industrial companies based in Düren, such as Metsä Tissue GmbH and QuickPack Haushalt + Hygiene GmbH, among others. Against this backdrop, there are plans to create up to 110 new jobs.
Thomas Hissel, First Deputy of the Town of Düren and CEO of WIN.DN GmbH, commented on the arrival of Peter Sous GmbH as follows: “The example of Peter Sous GmbH highlights the strengths of Düren as an industrial location and will provide employment opportunities at all levels of qualification. These range from apprenticeships in the commercial sector to warehouse logistics specialists and unskilled workers. Aside from the creation of jobs, environmental aspects have also been taken into account. By consolidating external warehouses, lorry movements will be significantly reduced, thus cutting CO2 emissions by approx. 200 t/year.”
“With the development of the BTS facility for Sous Logistik Group, we can look back on a fruitful partnership with the new user as well as with the local business development agency and other municipal authorities, such as the real estate office and civil engineering office. In spite of a few challenges, we managed to complete construction on time, including the agreed completion of an access road in the industrial park. This will also benefit existing businesses in the area. We would like to thank all those involved in the project for the successful cooperation,” says Fred-Markus Bohne, Managing Partner at Panattoni Germany and Austria.
