Renewable energy: Sunrock and Panattoni extend their European collaboration to the French market

Panattoni entrusts Sunrock with the photovoltaic installation for its new logistics site in Ormes, France. Sunrock, a European leader in photovoltaic solutions for logistics real estate, announces the expansion of its partnership in the French market with Panattoni. Following the success of their collaboration in the Dutch and German markets, the two companies are now combining their expertise to develop large-scale solar projects — notably at a first site in Ormes. This project illustrates Panattoni France’s ambitious decarbonisation policy.

A strategic partnership serving decarbonisation

Installing photovoltaic panels on the roofs of logistics buildings turns previously unused surfaces into genuine sources of renewable energy — available for consumption by tenants and the surrounding community. For Panattoni, the goal is twofold:

•             Significantly reduce the carbon footprint of its buildings across their entire lifecycle

•             Offer clients real estate assets aligned with their CSR commitments

This partnership with Sunrock is rooted in a territorial approach: every logistics warehouse becomes an active link in the local energy chain. This strategy fully aligns with national energy‑transition objectives, addressing both regulatory requirements (Climate & Resilience Law) and the growing expectations of local communities, our clients and our investors in terms of environmental responsibility,” explains Llorenç Jalle Garrido, Technical Director, Panattoni France.

A commitment beyond regulatory obligations

Since establishing its operations in France more than four years ago, Panattoni has gone beyond regulatory requirements to reduce its carbon footprint and environmental impact. While current regulations mandate photovoltaic coverage on 30% of usable roof area, the company goes well beyond this threshold. Already a signatory of the Afilog charter in 2021, which provides for at least 50% coverage of logistics buildings — Panattoni is committed to exceeding the mandated thresholds for photovoltaic coverage and is targeting photovoltaic coverage of 100% of usable surface area. Two additional solar projects between the two partners are also expected to be announced in 2026.

Sunrock’s expertise in the European market enables us to support Panattoni’s ambitions with a turnkey approach tailored to French specificities. We manage the entire value chain: engineering, regulation, insurance, grid connection and local resale of the energy. Our objective: to develop several tens of MWp per year across the country,” says Romain Bajas, Project Developer at Sunrock France.

Renewable energy serving local communities

Installing photovoltaic panels on the rooftops of logistics platforms makes it possible to transform unused surfaces into sources of renewable energy for their territories. The electricity generated will be resold in part to building tenants and to nearby businesses, via collective self‑consumption schemes.

The Ormes site (total capacity: 1.8 MWp) generates the equivalent of the annual electricity consumption of approximately 500 French households. This logistics site thus becomes an active link in local energy production.

A competitive advantage for clients

Equipping logistics platforms with photovoltaic panels and sharing the generated electricity with their tenants directly contributes to reducing buildings’ carbon footprint while improving their energy performance — a criterion considered in obtaining BREEAM certification.

It also represents a competitive advantage for Panattoni’s clients — both users and investors. These installations enable them to reduce their energy bills while ensuring a high‑performing real estate asset aligned with their own CSR commitments — enhancing value for partners, employees and end customers.
