Panattoni and enercity plan 80,000 m² rooftop PV system

Big plans require major collaborations: In order to drive forward the currently largest urban Brownfield projects in Northern Germany, Panattoni Germany is putting its faith in the enercity when it comes to the supply of energy. In addition to the development of the electrical connection of the Panattoni Campus Hanover City Centre, the energy provider is also establishing the connection to the municipal district heating and water grid.

The site network for the new logistics and industrial park includes the charging infrastructure for around 100 electric vehicles and a photovoltaics system on the 80,000 m² roof which, with a peak output of 9 MwP, is one of the most powerful and largest rooftop PV systems in Northern Germany. “In cooperation with enercity, we are following the path of the energy revolution,” says Fred-Markus Bohne, Managing Partner at Panattoni Germany and Austria.  “With the Panattoni Campus Hanover City Centre, we are setting new standards for the implementation of sustainable real estate projects. Both companies share the conviction that financial success and environmental compatibility aren’t opposites and, instead, are symbiotic.”

The innovative Panattoni Campus in the heart of the capital of Lower Saxony consists of two City Dock buildings with a total of 18 units, a new build-to-suit building for Nexans, and modern logistics and production areas. Currently, approximately 40% of the new buildings of the around 168,000 m² industrial site on the Mittelland Canal has been completed. By the end of the year, the last construction work on the first construction phase, which is comprised of 40,000 m², is slated to be completed. The anchor tenant, Nexans, moved into its hall in July. Buildings 2, 5 and 6 are under construction. During the 2nd construction phase, after the dismantling work has been completed, buildings 3 and 4 will be completed by the end of 2025. Due to the flexible, modular design, a total of 100,000 m² of usable space will be created on the campus for a variety of needs from the industrial, logistics and commercial sectors.

The Head of the Department of Economy and the Environment of the State Capital Hanover, Anja Ritschel, highlights the following aspect, “enercity and Panattoni show that cooperation between various specialties yields good results. Our objective of reaching climate neutrality by 2035 also requires the active involvement of the economy. In this respect, I am pleased that a Brownfield project is being combined with the topics of climate neutrality and sustainability here.”

Located in the immediate vicinity of the A2, A352, Hanover's city centre and the Hanover airport, the Panattoni Campus Hanover City Centre is a lighthouse project with regard to sustainability. In the framework of the Panattoni Green Building concept, the project developer is aiming to obtain certification according to the DGNB gold standard. The comprehensive sustainability measures include, in addition to the photovoltaics system, increased heat insulation, fossil-free heating with district heating and a smart metering system. Future employees’ well-being is also ensured by means of on-site exercise and relaxation options. In order to ensure adequate noise protection for the adjacent properties and the small gardens on the other side of the Mittelland Canal, Panattoni is erecting a 6-meter-high and 600-meter-long noise protection wall with greenery.
