Forging ahead with a sense of responsibility: Panattoni defends top spot in the PropertyEU ranking

For the eighth time in a row, Europe’s leading project developer, Panattoni, secured the top position in the PropertyEU-Ranking with four times the developed area than the second-place winner. All of the major European players were assessed based on the developed surface area from 2021 to 2023. Projects currently in development and the investment volume were also included in the assessment.

Panattoni completed 367 projects throughout Europe between 2021 and 2023. This corresponds to a developed surface area of 14 million m². The specialist for the development of industrial and logistics property therefore stands out markedly from the competition. Fred-Markus Bohne, Managing Partner During Panattoni Germany and Austria says the following about their international success. “Our leading position for several years is the result of a highly dedicated and competent team. Being the largest developer on the German and European market also entails great responsibility, in every aspect, particularly, however, toward the team, the companies that utilise our properties, the people in the region and the environment.”

Panattoni has been active on the European market for industrial and logistics properties since 2005. If the 22.3 million m² of real estate that has been developed since the start, 14.6 million m² have been certified in accordance with the sustainability criteria applicable in the various countries. In addition to the certifications from the Deutschen Gesellschaft für Nachhaltiges Bauen [German Association for Sustainable Building] (DGNB), Panattoni has also received certifications according to BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method for buildings) and LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design). An additional 6 million m² of real estate under development by Europe’s largest developer of industrial and logistics properties are currently undergoing the certification process.

Panattoni also includes environmental indicators in its key sustainability indicators Photovoltaics covering a surface area of 4.1 million m² on the roofs of Panattoni buildings now generate an output of 340 MWp throughout Europe. In order to avoid sealing valuable vegetation areas, the developer is increasingly revitalising brownfields. This has resulted in around 219 hectares of fallow and, in some cases, severely contaminated industrial spaces being restored for profitable use and another 272 hectares of brownfield space are currently in development, a benefit to everyone involved.
