Panattoni Park Steenwijk, a new state of the art logistics facility building spanning approximately 34,000 square meters, celebrated the successful progress of its construction on Thursday, March 7th, with the ceremonial placement of the last column. The symbolic act was carried out by Bram Harmsma, Alderman at the Municipality of Steenwijkerland, Melanie Moolman, Technical Director at Panattoni, and Jeroen de Bonth, Director of the executing contractor Willy Naessens. The celebration took place in the presence of the construction team and other stakeholders. Panattoni Park Steenwijk is being constructed according to the BREEAM-NL Very Good standard. The warehouse will have a clear height of 12.20 meters and a super flat floor. The groundwork is largely completed, and the installation of pre-fabricated piles has now been officially concluded. The project is soon to enter the realization phase of the construction. The completion of the park is scheduled for Q1 2025.
Green Workplace with a Focus on Human Well-being and Nature
The multifunctional logistics facility is situated in the sustainable business park Eeserwold, near Zwolle. The design has been carefully crafted to harmonize with the natural surroundings. Extensive greenery will be incorporated around the building, with a focus on enhancing local biodiversity.
Bram Harmsma, Alderman at the Municipality of Steenwijkerland, commented, "Panattoni Park Steenwijk seamlessly aligns with the sustainable area development vision of the Municipality of Steenwijkerland. Developer Panattoni, in collaboration with the municipality, landscape architects, and ecologists, conducted extensive research to ensure optimal integration of the building into the natural landscape. As a result of this collaboration, the project now includes ponds as water reservoirs, enriched with aquatic plants from the nearby Eesermeer. Additionally, a diverse range of vegetation has been selected to attract insects and provide shelter for local fauna."
Melanie Moolman, Technical Director at Panattoni, added, "Recent studies have shown that Dutch citizens in 2024 are not getting enough exercise. Panattoni Park Steenwijk has taken this into account. The green surroundings of the building and the nearby 4.4-hectare Eesermeer encourage people to go outdoors and take leisurely walks during breaks. The site also features a secure bicycle parking facility, and showers in the building allow individuals to freshen up after a bike ride. These measures aim to encourage employees to cycle to work. By doing so, we hope to motivate building users to engage in physical activity and connect with nature, which has been proven to have a positive impact on their health and well-being."
The design of Panattoni Park Steenwijk and the surrounding landscape were developed in collaboration with the Municipality of Steenwijkerland, area developer Roelofs Planontwikkeling B.V., architectural firm MIES Architectuur, and ecological consultancy firm Hollandsgroen.
Clean Energy
The Eeserwold business park is exploring options for producing green hydrogen on-site. In connection with this research, Panattoni is considering collaboration with this initiative, such as supplying solar energy generated from the building's roof. Additionally, due to its proximity to the Eesermeer, the new building can be connected to a unique and sustainable cooling water network (UR Cool) that utilizes the cold water from the lake. This presents a significant advantage for entities requiring chilled storage, such as food or pharmaceutical companies. For businesses interested in utilizing this system, the benefits of connecting Panattoni Park Steenwijk to this network can be explored.
Strategic Location
Panattoni Park Steenwijk is being developed at a prominent location along the A32 on the Eeserwold business park. The park is conveniently positioned in relation to the northern provinces, the German border, and the European hinterland. Port of Zwolle, soon to attain the status of a seaport due to the widening of the Kornwerder Zandsluizen, is a half-hour drive away. Additionally, the MSC terminal Meppel is approximately a 16-minute drive. Companies such as Lidl, Picnic, Albert Heijn, DPD, Kuehne + Nagel, Scania, IKEA, FrieslandCampina, and Wehkamp have already chosen this region.
