Setting the course for the future: Panattoni meets with young mayors

Logistics properties aren’t built overnight, but they are built hand-in-hand, in a trusting collaboration with the political representatives of cities, municipalities and states. In order to ensure the basis for a successful collaboration is right, Panattoni is proactively seeking contact with the decision makers. The project will be attending and running a stand at the annual meeting of the Network of Young Mayors, which takes place on 15 and 16 May at the Friedrichshain Environmental Forum in Berlin.

With more than 200 young mayors and guests from across Germany, the fifth major annual conference of the network is an important platform for exchanging ideas and best practices in the municipal sector. Panattoni will be present for the third time since 2022 and will be taking an in-depth look at current municipal matters during the numerous conversations and expert panels.

“The annual meeting is an excellent opportunity for us to listen to the concerns and challenges young mayors face,” says Fred-Markus Bohne, Managing Partner at Panattoni Germany and Austria. “We place great value on a trusting collaboration with the cities and municipalities in which we realise projects. Panattoni knows: The logistics sector is an important backbone for industry and commerce and the demand for strategically well-located sites for storage, transshipment and distribution is accordingly high. Logistics properties also offer the municipalities and the surrounding region several benefits. This includes, in particular, strengthening the region as a place of commerce, creating jobs and advancing the infrastructure. Where logistics centers are built, a vortex effect is created that draws other companies from the production and trade sectors. This not only results in additional trade tax income, it also often results in positive impacts on the infrastructure. Nonetheless, there are reservations among the responsible parties in the municipalities and cities as well as among the broader public. “In order to avoid fears and misunderstandings, it is important to us that all of the involved parties are included in the planning as early as possible,” says Fred-Markus Bohne. “Ultimately, the municipalities and project developers are pursuing the same objective: securing the future of the region.”

The collaboration between all of the parties involved creates a win-win situation. Not only do commerce and infrastructure benefit from new concepts and developments, the people in the area do, too. One example of this is the sustainable revitalisation of unsed, often contaminated industrial wastelands, so-called brown fields, which not only creates jobs, it also benefits the environment.
