BLG puts new logistics centre developed by Panattoni Europe into operation for Siemens Gas Turbine Plant

Last week BLG LOGISTICS officially started operations in a new ultra-modern logistics centre designed and constructed by the project developer Panattoni Europe in Falkensee near Berlin. From this facility with 22,000 m² of logistics space, an outside storage area of 1,000 m² and 1,300 m2 of office and recreational space the logistics service provider will primarily carry out factory logistics: The BLG team supplies the production lines of the Siemens gas turbine factory in Berlin-Moabit and its plant in Berlin Siemensstadt.

In the new logistics centre all materials and primary products from different suppliers are collected. “We perform the order picking of the supplied parts, as well as their transport in our own trucks and distribution of the materials to the place of assembly in the Siemens factory,” Christian Dieckhöfer, Managing Director of BLG Industrielogistik GmbH & Co. KG, explains. “Our team in Falkensee has been handling the inbound logistics for the gas turbine manufacturing plant since April 2017 - until now in an upstream consolidation centre inside the plant itself.” BLG LOGISTICS has been providing logistics services for Siemens since 2000 and is now active for various divisions of Siemens in different locations.

Brokered by Logivest GmbH, the project was developed by Panattoni Europe and construction of the complex facility in Falkensee began in October 2017. Panattoni is aiming to win the DGNB gold certification for the new logistics centre. [DGNB: Deutsche Gesellschaft für Nachhaltiges Bauen – DGNB e.V., (German Sustainable Building Council)]. Although most of the facility is already in operation, there are still a few square metres with development potential.

Fred-Markus Bohne, Managing Partner of Panattoni Europe is full of praise for the smooth co-operation with BLG and is delighted with the success of the project: “After implementing projects for BLG in Bremen and Düsseldorf, we have now successfully completed this joint project in Berlin Falkensee. 64,000 square metres of logistics space

The new facility is in the vicinity of a supplier logistics centre where BLG LOGISTICS has been carrying out all external warehousing processes for the Siemens switchgear manufacturing plant in Berlin for the last four years. Now, on an area of 43,000 square metres of covered logistics space and an open outdoor space of 21,000 square metres, BLG is able to provide additional services in Falkensee such as procurement logistics, production supply, distribution logistics, customs warehousing, set compilation, technical inspections and reworking for customers in the mechanical and plant engineering, high-tech and automotive industries. Falkensee is situated on the north-western outskirts of Berlin and has two crucial advantages: direct connection to the motorway A 10 via the access slip-road Berlin-Spandau and its close proximity to Siemensstadt where various Berlin customers of BLG have their company premises.
