- Employees and project participants celebrate summer party in Ketsch
- Logistics facility with more than 35,000 sqm hall space under construction
- Total investment approx. 25 million euros
On 12th September, 21sportsgroup, a multi-channel sport outfitters company which successfully operates throughout Europe, celebrated a summer party with a large number of employees on the construction site of the company’s new location in Ketsch, a municipality in the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region. On this site, the project developer Panattoni Europe is building a new logistics facility for 21sportsgroup which will be used for receiving, warehousing, order-picking and dispatching sports equipment and sportswear.
The party was attended by a large number of 21sportsgroup‘s employees as well as representatives from the municipality, neighbours and other project participants. Altogether, about 100 guests celebrated the start of the construction work. In his greeting, Jürgen Kappenstein, mayor of Ketsch, said, “We are delighted to welcome 21sportsgroup as a successful e-commerce company to our industrial estate and that the company’s choice of this location will create several hundred jobs in Ketsch.”
The site in Sachsenstrasse with a total area of 67,300 sqm is an excellent location with good local public transport connections and is not far from the A 61 and A6 motorways. A further advantage is its proximity to the DHL handling centre in Speyer. The facility was designed according to the requirements of the future tenant and has a hall space of 30,475 sqm, office and social space of 2.361 sqm and 2.322 sqm mezzanine area. The customised design also allows for the possibility of third party use.
During the negotiations for the project, 21sportsgroup was assisted in an exclusive advisory capacity by the real estate broker company Realogis. Dr. Henner Schwarz, Managing Director and CFO of 21sportsgroup has this to say about the project: “The location is the ideal site where we can gradually concentrate our currently decentral logistics activities. It will enable us to offer our customers an even more attractive range of goods and additional services through all the member companies of our group.”
Panattoni has calculated an investment for the facility of approx. 25 million euros. The building, which is being constructed in compliance with the DGNB gold standard [DGNB: Deutsche Gesellschaft für Nachhaltiges Bauen – DGNB e.V., (German Sustainable Building Council)], will be handed over to the tenant in Spring 2018. In addition, the facility will be equipped with a fully automatic order picking system over an area of approx. 10,000 sqm.
Fred-Markus Bohne, Managing Partner of Panattoni Europe, had this to say about the project development for 21sportsgroup, “The co-operation with the municipality as well as with the 21sportsgroup is excellent and professional. This project underlines once again the competence of Panattoni Europe in the development of logistics facilities for clients in the e-commerce sector. In total, we have already developed more than 1.2 million sqm in Europe for this growing branch, including properties for clients like Decathlon and Castorama.”
