The Czech branch of Panattoni Europe has supported the work of the MELA o.p.s. public benefit organization and provided a financial donation cheque on 8 May 2012 to help MELA's sheltered housing clients spend a relaxation and convalescence stay in Janské Lázně.
As part of their viewing of the sheltered housing and social therapy workshop, Panattoni employees did small artisanal jobs to help improve the interiors of the flats in which MELA's o.p.s. clients live, aided by their personal assistants, and where they perform their everyday living tasks.
The event participants included the Mayor of Kolín, Vít Rakušan (Mgr. et Bc.), who commented on it as follows: " Even though MELA o.p.s is newly established company in the field of social activities they already became famous with respect to their superb reputation. It's activities are tangible and with proven results. I am very pleased to see joy and in lives of sheltered housing clients. Those activities are more than welcome and supported by the Kolín city. Special thanks to Panattoni representatives who support Mela o.p.s not only financially but personally in their free time. It is a unique joint venture of business and private field which is also highly supported by Kolín city"
"When asked why we decided to sponsor just the MELA o.p.s. public benefit organization, the answer probably is: Just as buildings have their foundations, life too calls for certain fundamental aspects that will allow a human individual to grow. It is these foundation stones that MELA o.p.s. provides its clients with in the form of sheltered housing and workshops that develop the disabled people's sense of autonomy and independence," said Pavel Sovièka, Managing Director Panattoni Europe Czech Republic & Slovakia.
The MELA o.p.s. public benefit organization was established in early 2008. Its principal objective is to create more opportunities for people with mental disabilities on their path towards autonomy and independence, to normal living in natural conditions of the human community outside large-scale institutions. The fundamental question is housing (sheltered or assisted) and work (social therapy workshops, assisted employment). That is why the organization's principal activities are the operation of sheltered housing and a social therapy workshop.
Mela operates sheltered housing in two locations in Kolín. One is at Antonína Kaliny 1353, where they have two 4+1 flats as part of a housing estate. The flats are home to seven clients. Another four clients live in a single-family house on Jana Nerudy Street in Kolín-Sendražice.
