Panattoni, the leading industrial developer in Europe, is developing another modern and ecologically sustainable cross-docking terminal for DB Schenker. The 6,000 sqm centre is to be built within the Rzeszów-Dworzysko Science and Technology Park. It will be equipped with a range of solutions to protect the environment as well as intelligent systems to optimise logistic operations. The developer is to hand the centre over in January 2021 and the development has already been accredited as an innovative centre by the Rzeszów Regional Development Agency.
Panattoni and DB Schenker – sustainable and modern. Panattoni is to deliver a cross-docking terminal in Rzeszów, which will meet the criteria of DB Schenker's sustainable development policy. The building is to include solar panels for heating water, greywater collection for flushing the toilets in the office building and a HVAC system that can recover 90 pct of the excess heat. In order to optimise its logistics operations, DB Schenker is to use the intelligent MetrXFreight system for intelligently measuring the dimensions of loads as well as the new Connect 4.0 online platform for handling parcels. The project is to be built on a 4.5 ha site and the building will have 6,071 sqm of useable space of which 5,275 will be the hall and 725 will be office space. DB Schenker will have 57 docks at its disposal as well as 200 parking spaces, including 30 for trucks and 13 for vans. The building is to be completed in January 2021.
“Our clients are continually raising the bar for us and we are doing everything to be their first-choice operator. We are introducing new technologies and systems to raise the quality of our service. We are investing in new infrastructure and we are strengthening our logistics chain across Europe including in Poland. We are starting the construction of a new ecologically sustainable building in the Podkarpackie region. Later in the year, we are also going to open a new terminal for our clients from the Lublin region. Together with the new terminal, we are investing around PLN 100 mln in just under a year," says Piotr Zborowski, CEO North&East Europe DB Schenker.
Another chapter in the partnership. The DB Schenker terminal in Rzeszów is another joint development between DB Schenker and Panattoni, in which modern ecologically sustainable solutions play a major role. As Robert Dobrzycki, CEO Panattoni commented: “With our experience of having developed over 2 mln sqm of ecologically sustainable green buildings, we at Panattoni were once again able to partner up with DB Schenker and bring our know-how to the development as well as the experience of our expert team. Because of this, the project is going to run smoothly and be completed within budget, before the planned deadline, while maintaining the highest of standards,” and he adds: “We very much enjoy these kinds of developments because they allow us to develop in the direction we wish to head – the direction of modernity and ecological sustainability.”
It is in this spirit that Panattoni is also developing a building for DB Schenker in Świdnik, where safe, modern equipment is to be used, including silent electric-powered forklifts, LED lighting, and heat recovery systems. The building will meet the highest standards of energy efficiency and CO2 emissions. Earlier at the start of 2019, the developer delivered a building in Nowa Wieś Wrocławska near Wrocław, in which the ecological solutions used allowed for energy consumption to be halved with CO² emissions lowered by 230 tons in comparison to a traditional building.
Innovation confirmed. The DB Schenker centre is to be built in a location that is conducive to modern solutions – within the Rzeszów-Dworzysko Technology Park. To plan the development an Innovation Opinion had to be issued by an independent scientific research body to confirm that innovative solutions were being used in the design. The innovativeness of the DB Schenker cross-dock terminal has already been affirmed by the Rzeszów Regional Development Agency and Panattoni took an active role throughout the application process for the opinion.
By choosing the Rzeszów-Dworzysko technology park, DB Schenker gains a location near the S19 expressway, which runs between Lublin and Białystok as well as the A4 motorway, which gives the centre access to Kraków, Wrocław, Katowice and Gliwice.
