Panattoni handed over sustainable hall in the Chomutov region to Jungheinrich

The 37,000 sqm building is part of the Panattoni Park Chomutov North industrial zone and features a range of modern technologies. The investment in the building itself exceeds CZK 1.5 billion, making it one of the largest in the region. Jungheinrich plans to start production in the middle of this year, which will bring about 350 skilled jobs in the manufacturing sector. The building project also includes the surrounding area near the building zone and envisages investing in extensive biodiversity measures.

"In Chomutov we are in the process of setting up one of the world's most modern manufacturing plants for forklift trucks and are now one major step closer to achieving this. As demand for Jungheinrich material handling equipment grows steadily, we are expanding capacities within our European production network. Our new plant is central to achieving our growth targets and increasing Jungheinrich's competitiveness in the long term," says Sabine Neuß, Member of the Board of Management Technics at Jungheinrich AG.

"As an area firmly linked to coal mining, the Chomutov region is facing a necessary economic restructuring in the coming years towards a more modern, environmentally friendly type of industry, thus meeting the objectives stemming from the Green Deal for Europe. That is why we are pleased that Panattoni is here to participate in a project that will help the region begin this transformation. The fact that this is the production of a final product also adds value to the whole project. Personally, I am pleased that the region is open to new opportunities and investments and that the project has been developed in close cooperation with local authorities," says Klára Sobotková, Regional Development Director, Panattoni.

"Similar investments are needed not only in our municipality, but in the whole region. They show that the Chomutov region can have a future as an industrial area with added value. A bonus is the sustainable design of the building and the interesting production programme of the tenant Jungheinrich, confirming that modern production in a modern building brings much desired jobs," says Václav Hora, Mayor of Vrskmaň.

The building within the Panattoni Park Chomutov North industrial complex stands out for its environmental friendliness, which is confirmed by its aspiration for an "Excellent" rating in the BREEAM New Construction certification. The project also has superior insulation, external blinds and a heat pump which will also save on the cost of energy bills. The use of rainwater for flushing in the industrial zone also confirms the sustainability.

However, the project near Chomutov also stands out for its extensive investment in promoting biodiversity around the industrial zone. A 1.5 hectare planting area consisting of tree and shrub species with an emphasis on native species will serve as a replacement for the removed draw. 438 trees and over 12 000 shrubs have been planted. The area will remain unfenced and will naturally follow the revitalisation of the adjacent riparian vegetation. Ponds have been dug in suitable locations to increase local species diversity. Additional measures also include meadow vegetation or boxes, which are erected from 1.5 metres up to 8 metres high and are already used by various species of birds and bats.

Jungheinrich, based in Hamburg, is one of the world's leading providers of intralogistics solutions with a history of 70 years. The current reach truck production at the Jungheinrich production plant in Norderstedt will gradually be moved to the new site in Panattoni Park Chomutov North. The available capacities in Norderstedt will then be used to enable further growth here.
