Opportunity

Amazon had been building its fulfillment centres in Western Europe and in countries much larger than the Czech Republic. Amazon had bold plans with its billions for investment and opening up a fulfillment center in Czech Republic was another milestone for the company. The company had to handle current and future customer demand, as customers continue to respond to Amazon's great selection of products and services. The new fulfillment center had to ensure that Amazon customers enjoy fast and reliable delivery across Europe.

Solution

The hall is located in Panattoni Park Prague Airport, on the western outskirts of Prague and in the immediate vicinity of Prague Ruzyně International Airport at the exit of the R6 expressway (Prague - Karlovy Vary), which connects to Prague circuit and on the other hand, leads to the pan-European motorway E48 in Germany. The park is located just 20 km from the center of Prague, and 8 km from the city of Kladno, which ensures excellent access for workers by public transport, which passes through the complex.

The hall was built according to Amazon's requirements, is BREEAM New Construction Excellent certified and the whole facility was completed in 9 months. Until 2021 it was the largest leased industrial building ever built in the Czech Republic since 1989. The fulfillment center is part of Amazon's European fulfillment network and offers 2 000 permanent and additional 3 000 seasonal job placements.

Green-friendly solutions

The logistic complex built by Panattoni Europe for Amazon within its Park Prague Airport park has obtained the BREEAM International certificate with an Excellent rating.

The BREEAM certification together with the scoring of 76.8 pct gives the property first place in the ‘new built logistics premises’ category in the Czech Republic and for the BREEAM International scheme worldwide, informs Panattoni. “It was (in 2015) also the highest-scoring ever received for the Amazon completed projects in the whole world.

In the certification process attention was paid mainly to the heat recovery, the use of LED lighting sensors, the installation of meters for all utilities to manage and optimize energy consumption, intelligent building management system (BMS) and the maximum limitation of water consumption, among others.
