Thanks to the latest expansion, it is the largest distribution center of Tchibo in Central and Eastern Europe. The facility has reached an “Excellent” rating within the BREEAM new construction environmental certification according to the latest standards.
About
Tchibo, is a German retail chain, at the beginning offered to its customers only coffee and coffee specialties. Nowadays, it sells a great variety of goods, which changes weekly and is thematically very diverse, ranging from household and kitchen through fashion, sports, electronics, toys, jewelry to garden. Tchibo products cover more than 75% of all consumer goods offered on the market. Last year, the company became a leader in the Czech online fashion retail. E-commerce represents about 30% of its total sales. The new distribution centre in Cheb will certainly contribute to an increase in online sales, as it will focus on B2C online business.
Opportunity
In all countries where Tchibo operates, a total of over 13 million shipments each year is being shipped. This places very high demands on the organization and logistics. The distribution center in Cheb was an important step to cover the growing volumes of Tchibo sales and in getting closer to their customers.
Solution
Tchibo's new distribution center in Cheb specializes in B2C online business. Already in the first phase of the project, it was to become the largest building in the entire industrial zone. After the completion of the second part of the construction in Panattoni Park Cheb, Tchibo opened an extended distribution center for its e-shop. The leasable area increased from 39,000 m2 to 73,000 m2. That meant the second largest logistics hall in the Czech Republic and the largest distribution center of Tchibo in Central and Eastern Europe were built in Cheb. In the first quarter of 2021 Tchibo expanded the existing hall in the Panattoni Park Cheb industrial zone again, this time to a total of 102,200 square meters.
The newest part of the Tchibo building stands out with several environmental elements that are not completely common in the Czech logistic property market. In addition to outdoor blinds and a charging station for electric cars, there were implemented, for example, special grass grates with the function of capturing oil substances instead of classic interlocking paving for the car park or low-emission and highly efficient hall heating. Thanks to these parameters, the existing and new hall reached an “Excellent” rating within the prestigious BREEAM new construction environmental certification according to the latest standards.
The Tchibo distribution center in Cheb is used for storage, packing and shipping of goods that customers have ordered on the Internet. Thanks to the latest expansion, the complete building will have a generous capacity of more than 50.000 pallet spaces, and should therefore withstand the toughest lockdowns or peak hours before the Christmas holidays. The hall supplies not only the Czech market but also the Slovak, Polish, Hungarian, Austrian, Swiss, and German markets.
