Panattoni, Europe's leading logistics-industrial real estate developer, inaugurated Panattoni Park Torija I. This is a 27,000 sqm turnkey building developed for Leroy Merlin, the French multinational company specialized in DIY, construction, decoration and gardening. The building is placed within a total area of 44,100 sqm, located in the industrial complex of Torija, in the province of Guadalajara.
The presentation ceremony was presided over by Mr. Emiliano García-Page, President of Castilla-La Mancha, the President of the Provincial Council of Guadalajara, Mr. José Luis Vega Pérez, the Mayor of Torija, Mr. Rubén García, the Counselor of Economy, Business and Employment of Castilla-La Mancha, Ms. Patricia Franco Jiménez, the President of the Parliament of Castilla-La Mancha, Mr. Pablo Bellido Acevedo, Panattoni’s Managing Director for Spain and Portugal, Mr. Gustavo Cardozo, and the Supply Chain Director of Leroy Merlin Spain, Mr. Benito Vicente.
"It is a milestone for us to hand over today this tailor-made warehouse to such a relevant multinational as Leroy Merlin, a leader in home improvement in Spain," said Gustavo Cardozo, Panattoni’s Managing Director for Spain and Portugal. "Panattoni Park Torija I is a valuable asset in the heart of Spain and it offers Leroy Merlin's logistics chain the privileged access it needs both to Madrid and Zaragoza and Barcelona, through the A-2. Today, Panattoni once again highlights its expertise in building efficient and sustainable logistics spaces for the most demanding customers".
In November 2020, Leroy Merlin and Panattoni closed a deal whereby the French multinational commissioned Europe's leading real estate developer to build a Class A custom-built building, with all the standards and state-of-the-art services needed to expand its logistics facilities in the same area. This facility will be used for its B2C (business to consumer) references in stock, as well as its cross-docking platform, which makes it possible to take an unloaded product from an inbound vehicle to an outbound vehicle, thus minimizing the need for storage and the delivery time of the goods.
This optimization is part of Leroy Merlin's Lean & Green Plan, which aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in its logistics chain by 20% over the next 5 years. "With this warehouse, Leroy Merlin's facilities in Torija now count with a total of more than 176,000 sqm, creating 452 direct jobs and 164 indirect jobs, which reaffirms the company's commitment to the region and to boosting its economy”, said Benito Vicente, Supply Chain Director of Leroy Merlin Spain.
"We can really be proud of what is being done here," said the President of Castilla-La Mancha, Mr. Emiliano García-Page, stressing "the affection and efficiency with which we are working here to generate wealth and employment". He also remarked that "there is no environmental and social sustainability without economic sustainability", and thanked Panattoni and Leroy Merlin for "betting on Torija", where "they are very well received".
The new warehouse has a "Very Good" grade in the BREEAM certification for sustainable construction. It has a clear height of 11 meters for storage on up to six levels and it also has 40 loading docks and a functional design to streamline all operations.
