Panattoni Europe building again in Düsseldorf harbour

  • Panattoni erecting facility for ABC-Logistik GmbH in Düsseldorf-Hafen
  • Premises to be created on approx. 23,500 m2 site
  • Completion set for mid-2020

Panattoni Europe, the leading project developer for industrial and logistics premises in Europe, is once again constructing logistics premises in the Düsseldorf district of Hafen, home to the city’s harbour. The developer is working to create premises in the district for ABC-Logistik GmbH. The 23,500m2 site will become home to a facility comprising 11,600m2 of logistics space, 1,900m2 of office space and social areas, and 540m2 of mezzanine space.

The brownfield site is located at Am Fallhammer 15/Cuxhavener Strasse 4a and enjoys excellent connections to the A46 and A57 autobahns as well as superb access to Düsseldorf city centre. The property will be constructed using high-quality techniques in accordance with the gold standard of the German Sustainable Building Council (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Nachhaltiges Bauen – DGNB) and, thanks to its trimodal connections, will facilitate transport chains both on land and by water. Construction is already underway, having started in mid-May, and the project is scheduled for completion in the second quarter of 2020. NDH – Neuss-Düsseldorfer Häfen GmbH & Co. KG – is the lessor of the leasehold site.

The tenant is ABC-Logistik GmbH, a company specialising in carrier transport, storage logistics, added-value services and assembly logistics. Since its foundation in 1997, ABC-Logistik has been based in Düsseldorf-Hafen; the company now provides work for 250 employees, has 60,000m2 of logistics space and owns a fleet of 80 vehicles.

The new facility will expand ABC-Logistik’s presence at its main base. “The location is perfect for our logistics services. From handling containers via the neighbouring container terminal through to warehousing and both national and international transport and assembly logistics, Düsseldorf-Hafen provides everything needed to develop and implement business models for long-term success,” says Holger te Heesen, General Manager of ABC-Logistik.

Since launching its incharge – Smart City Centre Logistics project in 2017, ABC-Logistik has been actively engaged in developing sustainable, well-organised goods transport in Düsseldorf. The goal of the incharge project is to reduce the number of delivery vehicles in the centre of the city by up to 75% by consolidating deliveries. This affords local companies greater control over their commodity flows and offers the retail sectors new opportunities to sustain their success alongside online sales.

“Due to its close proximity to the heart of the state capital, the harbour is the ideal location for city centre logistics operations. The new premises at Am Fallhammer 15 will therefore be of decisive importance for ABC-Logistik. With Panattoni, we have an experienced partner on board for this important project,” continued te Heesen.

With this in mind, the site is planned exclusively for incharge transshipment and handling operations. In conjunction with the new administrative centre, the company is set to create up to 100 new jobs in the coming years.

Panattoni Europe has previous experience of building in Düsseldorf-Hafen. “We have previously completed successful projects in the district with the parties involved, such as the development of the Panattoni Logistics Park. We’re delighted that ABC-Logistik has placed their trust in our expertise,” says Fred-Markus Bohne, Managing Partner of Panattoni Europe.
