Panattoni celebrates topping-out ceremony in Erbes-Büdesheim: Where history meets modern logistics

The topping-off ceremony for the new Panattoni Park Mainz Süd was held south of Mainz. A modern and sustainable logistics and industrial site with a total surface area of approx. 9,500 square metres is being constructed in Erbes-Büdesheim, west of Alzey. The connection to national and international logistics networks is ensured by the proximity to the A63 and A61 federal motorways and the multimodal transshipment points in Mainz, Frankfurt and Mannheim.

Panattoni, Germany’s largest developer of logistics, industrial and commercial properties, started construction in the 3rd quarter of 2025. 8,220 square metres of logistics space as well as 500 square metres of office and 700 square metres of mezzanine space will be built on the site, which measures approximately 20,200 square metres. 33 parking spaces are planned for the exterior grounds. After the planned completion in July 2026, the rental spaces will be available immediately.

The PV system on the roof will produce between 720,000 and 900,000 kilowatt hours of electricity annually. Of those, the internal consumption for the operation of the building will use approximately eight to fourteen percent and the generated energy will also be used for the charging infrastructure on the exterior grounds for eMobility and trucks. Panattoni aims to obtain certification according to the DGNB [German Association for Sustainable Construction] gold sustainability standard for the Panattoni Park.

Cooperation, growth and regional history

Dr. Karlheinz Tovar, Mayor of the Municipality of Erbes-Büdesheim, explained, “In close and collaborative cooperation, a great contribution toward the economic life of our municipality is being created here. The logistics park in our new, expanded industrial district offers regional and international companies growth opportunities which we have never been able to provide before. I am particularly pleased about additional jobs that keep our location attractive.”

Dieter Mann, Alderman of the Municipality of Alzey-Land, praised the good cooperation. “The close collaboration with the competent authorities with regard to the archaeological find in the southern area of the site was particularly important to us.”

With regard to the ruins of walls from a church abandoned in the 15th century found while developing the site, the solution was, in close cooperation with the State Directorate for Archeology in Mainz, to research, document and then protect them by covering them back up with dirt. To preserve the archaeological site, nothing will be constructed in this area.

The property will be planned and constructed so it is WGK [water hazard class] 3-compliant, suitable for handling goods in water hazard class 3. The site has a permit for work at night every night of the week.
