Panattoni continues collaboration with B+S GmbH Logistik und Dienstleistungen
- Second logistics facility to be constructed on Borgholzhausen-Versmold site
- Three units for storage and transshipment planned offering a total of 28,043 m² of space
- Final handover scheduled for late March 2021
Panattoni, the leading project developer for industrial and logistics premises in Europe, has accepted an order to expand the premises of logistics service provider B+S GmbH Logistik und Dienstleistungen in Borgholzhausen in North Rhine-Westphalia. In 2017, Panattoni planned and developed a new company headquarters for B+S on the Borgholzhausen-Versmold inter-municipal industrial estate (IBV). B+S GmbH Logistik und Dienstleistungen selected this location due to its outstanding transport connections and proximity to key clients, but also in light of the excellent labour supply in the greater Bielefeld-Osnabrück region.
Due to its close connections to the A 33 and B 476 routes, the industrial estate is ideally positioned for serving both the Lower Saxon and Westphalian economic spheres. B+S GmbH Logistik und Dienstleistungen seized the potential of this outstanding location three years ago and commissioned Panattoni to develop a logistics complex offering more than 13,500 m² of space, which was handed over in May 2017.
The new development concerns a site spanning almost 50,000 m² situated directly beside the existing building and connected to its access road. Logistics service provider B+S GmbH Logistik und Dienstleistungen plans to use the new facility to store and transship industrial goods and wares for more clients in the retail sector and to house more offices. Stefan Brinkmann, Managing Director at B+S, is confident the expansion will prove a success: “Our clients have grown considerably in recent years and, by constructing a second building on the same site, we are moving to accommodate this growth. We have our faithful collaboration with Panattoni to thank for the fact that construction work was able to begin without any difficulties, despite the coronavirus crisis.”
Fred-Markus Bohne, Managing Partner at Panattoni, was equally delighted: “We see this new project to expand the B+S site as further emphatic approval of our work as a project developer. Due to our forward-looking planning and ability to withstand crises, we are very confident of delivering this project as promised and on schedule.”
The new premises will offer a total of 28,043 m² of space, divided into three functional units. It will feature a total of 1,057 m² of office space and 3,628 m² of mezzanine space. One building unit will be fitted with special firewater retention mechanisms to satisfy requirements for the storage of particularly hazardous goods. Another unit will be prepared for subsequent conversion to a cool store.
Dirk Speckmann, chair of the local special-purpose association, underlined the significance of the expansion for the area as a business location: “The towns of Borgholzhausen and Versmold jointly established the IBV industrial estate some 20 years ago to improve the growth prospects of companies located here and in the surrounding area. By selecting the project developer Panattoni, B+S has engaged the services of a highly capable and down-to-earth partner.”
Panattoni is striving to meet the Gold standard of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) in construction of the new premises. The new building’s sustainability concept includes a photovoltaic system with peak capacity of 2,100 kWp, from which both municipalities will benefit. The first unit is scheduled to be commissioned in late February 2021 following the start of civil engineering work in July and with building construction now underway. The remaining units will be handed over in late March 2021.
